At the 2016 census, the suburb of Castle Hill recorded a population of 39,594 people. Of these:

Age distribution: The median age of people in Castle Hill (NSW) (State Suburbs) was 40 years. Children aged 0 - 14 years made up 19.5% of the population and people aged 65 years and over made up 17.6% of the population.

Ethnic diversity: 57.8% of people were born in Australia. The most common countries of birth were China 6.8%, England 3.8%, India 3.1%, South Korea 2.3% and South Africa 1.8%. In Castle Hill 61.2% of people only spoke English at home. Other languages spoken at home included Mandarin 8.3%, Cantonese 4.2%, Korean 3.0%, Arabic 1.7% and Persian 1.6%.

Religion: The most common responses for religion in Castle Hill were Catholic 26.8%, No Religion 23.5% and Anglican 14.6%.

Finances: In Castle Hill (NSW) (State Suburbs), 12.4% of households had a weekly household income of less than $650 and 34.3% of households had a weekly income of more than $3000.

Transport: On the day of the Census, the most common methods of travel to work for employed people were: Car, as driver 60.9%, Bus 12.5% and Worked at home 6.1%. Other common responses were Car, as passenger 3.6% and Walked only 1.7%.

 

Housing: Of occupied private dwellings 74.6% were separate houses, 12.3% were semi-detached, row or terrace houses, townhouses etc, 12.9% were flat or apartments and 0.0% were other dwellings.


 

Transport:

 

The bulk of Castle Hill residents own private vehicles and travel to work using these, however bus services run to the suburb. Castle Hill was once served by the Rogans Hill railway line to Parramatta, which closed in 1932. There have been various plans to build railway lines through the suburb but none ever progressed past the proposal stage until June 2013 when the Sydney Metro Northwest was announced by the State Government for the Hills District. It opened to the public 26 May 2019.


Castle Hill is well served by private buses such as Hillsbus which provides express services to Sydney CBD, as well as Parramatta, Pennant Hills, West Pennant Hills, Beecroft, Dural, Hornsby, Macquarie Park, Baulkham Hills, Rouse Hill, Cherrybrook and Busways, which provides services to Stanhope Gardens, Kellyville, Glenwood, Bella Vista and Blacktown.
